1- what are the typical features that an advert has?
- All contain the name of the band/artist. This name is usually large and takes up a major part of the poster. This is to heolp attract attention and make theband name eye catching to the reader when flicking through a magazine, newspaper etc where the advert will be advertised.
- All the adverts also contain images, usually images of the band members. This again is a great way for the audience to immidately identify with the advertisement as soon as they see it. Also some stars relie on their star image in order to sell their music. Therefore it is essential that their image is clearly shown on advertisements in order to sell their brand.
2- how would you catorgorise the ones in front of you?
- The colours used, different colours used relate to the different genres the band/artists are in. E.g. black dark colors can relate to more emotional music where bright colours can be related to pop music due to its happy upbeat theme.

9 frame analysis
I have been looking into Eminems video - when im gone. This video is 6.09 long.
This screenshot was taken at 0.08 seconds into the video. The video shows a man stood in front of an audience speaking into a microphone. This indicates that the video is set in a room where people gather to speak about their emotions and feelings. This is made clear as the man can be heard speaking sincerely about and emotional issue to him. This gives a sincere feeling to the video at an early start and also an indication into the hard felt emotions and feelings that are included by Eminem in the song.
This screenshot was took at 1.06 into the video. This screenshot shows Eminem (the artist) speaking into a microphone in front of an audience. This sets an immidiate image that Emienm is going to express his feelings to the audience as other members had expressed theirs before Eminem took the stand. The clothing the artist is wearing is very plain and grubby, giving the impresion that the artist is not performing showing him as a normal person. The lighting is also very dark, giving the impression that the song will be dark and serious fitting to the colour scheme used.
This screenshot was taken at 1.32 into the video. The shot shows Eminem with a pad of paper and pen, indicating he is writing. The audience can then take this as he is writing lyrics which he can use in one of his songs as the star is popular and known for writing his own lyrics. This image also links to the story within the lyrics of the song, as he is wrapping about writing a new song. The background of this shot shows what seems to be Eminem’s home , showing that he writes lyrics personally and in the comfort of his home. The colours used are again very dark lining to the theme and emotion shown through the words expressed.

Eminem is seen wearing a suit , showing he takes his performing seriously and is a respected for his performing by his fans. The shot again links to the lyrics of the song as Eminem explains his true feelings about performing and how he has put his fans before other priorities in his life such as his daughter.

This again links to the lyrics of the song as Eminem explains how he feels he has let his daughter down, and even when performing this guilt has became so much he cannot block it out. This is a well known symbol that Eminem has created for himself over the years. This helps to show how Eminem’s fans are loyal and really appreciate his music, by sporting his name and brand image on their t-shirts.

This is to represent that the image in the mirror (Eminem wearing a suit after performing) is his star image Eminem, whereas the other image (Eminem standing in his normal clothes) is to represent himself as Marshal Mather’s his real name. Indicating that his real personality and star personality are different, with different priorities, his real ones being his family however his star priorities being his fans. This links to the song lyrics again as Eminem expresses his feelings about finding a balance between the two.

This shot is very light giving a happy glow to the shot which is a change as the rest of the video is dark and grey. This links to the lyrics as in showing the life that Eminem wishes for, very normal and happy. The normality is transferred through the simple clothing worn by the people in the shot, also there is only the 4 people in the shot and no fans etc that are associated with Eminem.

3 Album covers serve many different functions. What do you think these are?
- to make people aware of the album
- to make the album stand out from others on the shelf
- to portray the star image through the cover
- to portray the genre of the album and the contents of the album
- to generate publicity as people may talk about the album cover

Opie.
To create my Opie image i used a programme named photo shop. I took an image of myself and uploaded this into photo shop for me to edit. One of the tools i have learnt to use on photo shop is the lasso tool, which i used to help trace around different features of my image to fill in with a specific colour. Using this tool has helped me to improve my drawing skills and help me to trace steadily around shapes on a computer. I also used to fill tool from photoshop to help me to fill in certain shapes in full blocks of one colour, using the fill tool helped to make colouring in shapes much easier and quicker. I had to ensure each different feature was completed in a different layer on photoshop, these layers included face, facial features and hair. This helps to make the overall image sit well together. The image i created was based around the artist Opie.
